Sell & Trade

Feeling like you're ready to take the next step and buy that instrument you've always wanted? We can help you trade up, or even purchase your older gear that has served you well over the years. You can also visit our Donations page for more information about donating your instrument to the Old Town School.

What do we buy?

We are primarily a stringed instrument shop, but love and will buy all types of used and vintage instruments and gear from all over the world - Guitars and amps, banjos, mandolins, keyboards, ukuleles, microphones, effects pedals, hand percussion, world strings and more! Condition Your instruments and gear definitely needs to be in functional condition before we make you an offer.

How does the process work?

The first step in our purchasing/trade-in process is to email usedbuyer@oldtownschool.org with photos. This will go a long way to helping us make a decision. (We do reserve the right to refuse the purchase of an item if it does not meet our standards.) Once you hear back from our buyer that we are interested in taking a look at your gear, you will be able to set up a time to drop it off for further evaluation. You will likely have to leave your instrument at least overnight for our used buyer to fully evaluate it. We are a very small staff at the moment, and things are taking a bit longer to process. How do you value my gear? We will value your instrument based on condition, sales data from numerous sources and how well it may sell in our store or on our website. We have years of experience with new and vintage instruments and are dedicated to offering fair prices. Payment You will be issued a check for your instrument—checks are cut and mailed once a week. With special arrangements, we may be able to get payment made sooner. Some exceptions apply. Note: We are currently not taking in consignment instruments.
